Pet Emergency Kits
During an emergency, it’s important to have access to the things your pet needs to remain safe. Build a kit with your pet in mind, which should include many of the same items you would need for the human members of your family. Pet kits should include the following:
- Identification tags on collars
- Medications, immunization records
- Food, drinking water, bowls, cat litter/pan and can opener
- Sturdy leashes or carriers to transport pets safely (Carriers should be large enough for the pet to stand up, turn around and lie down)
- Towels or blankets
- Current photos of you with your pets
- Feeding schedules, medical conditions, behavior problems, and the name and number of your veterinarian
- Pet beds and toys
It’s also important to make sure you have an evacuation plan for your pet, including where they can stay if a disaster shelter doesn’t allow pets. If they have a microchip or ID tags, make sure that information is kept up to date.
